How much does LVP cost to install in Wichita?
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) typically costs $4 to $9 per square foot installed in the Wichita area. That covers the planks and the labor to put them down. It’s a ballpark based on published 2025–2026 flooring cost data, and your real price moves with the product grade, removal of old flooring, subfloor prep, stairs, the layout and waste, and how much furniture has to move.
LVP is the floor we’re asked about most. It handles spills, pets and Kansas mud season better than carpet or laminate, it goes in fast, and it works on every level of the house, including basements.
What does LVP cost by product grade?
| Grade | What you get | Installed per sq ft |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | Thinner plank, thinner wear layer, simpler print | about $4–$5 |
| Mid-range | Rigid core, thicker wear layer, attached pad on many lines | about $5–$7 |
| Upper | Thick wear layer, wider or longer planks, more realistic texture | about $7–$9 |
The wear layer is the clear top coat that takes the scratches. Thicker wear layers last longer under dogs, kids and kitchen chairs. A rigid core plank is stiffer, so it bridges small subfloor flaws better than a flexible one, though no plank hides real dips.
What do typical Wichita rooms cost?
| Room or area | Approx. size | Installed range |
|---|---|---|
| Bathroom | 50 sq ft | $200–$450 plus setup |
| Kitchen | 200 sq ft | $800–$1,800 |
| Living room | 350 sq ft | $1,400–$3,150 |
| Main floor of a ranch | 500 sq ft | $2,000–$4,500 |
| Finished basement | 800 sq ft | $3,200–$7,200 |
| Whole house | 1,000 sq ft | $4,000–$9,000 |
Very small rooms often cost more per foot, because pulling the toilet, cutting around a vanity and fitting a door jamb take the same time whether the room is big or small. Grouping a bathroom with a larger area usually brings the per-foot cost down.
How much do they charge to install LVP if I buy my own?
You can buy LVP through us, or buy it yourself at a big-box store or local flooring store and hire us to install it. Plenty of Wichita homeowners do the second. In that case your quote covers labor, any underlayment the product needs, transitions, and prep or removal.
Labor commonly makes up a sizable share of the installed price, so buying your own can make sense if you find planks you like at a good price. Before you buy, let us measure. We’ll tell you how many boxes to order with 5% to 10% overage for cuts, and check that the product is rated for the room. A basement or bathroom needs a plank meant for it.
What adds to an LVP quote?
Removing old flooring. Tear-out and haul-away often adds about $1 to $3 per square foot. Carpet comes up fast. Glued-down sheet vinyl and ceramic tile take longer.
Subfloor prep. This is the line people don’t expect. Click-lock LVP floats over the subfloor, and if the floor underneath has dips or humps, the joints flex and can separate over time. Most plank makers set a flatness limit. Subfloor repair and floor prep runs about $300 to $2,500, from patching compound in a few low spots to replacing soft plywood.
Stairs. Stairs are priced per step. Each tread gets a cut plank and a matching stair nose.
Trim. Pulling and resetting baseboard, or adding quarter-round to cover the expansion gap, is usually a separate line.
Furniture. Clearing rooms yourself saves labor time.
Can LVP go over the floor I have now?
Sometimes, and it can save the removal cost. LVP can usually float over old sheet vinyl or tile that’s flat and firmly stuck down. A few things rule it out:
- Carpet. Always comes up. It’s too soft for planks to lock and stay put.
- Loose or cracked tile. Movement underneath telegraphs through the planks.
- Deep grout lines. These can print through thinner planks, so they get skim-coated first.
- Height. Each layer raises the floor. Doors, dishwashers and transitions to other rooms need to clear it.
Going over an existing floor isn’t always the cheaper path in the long run. If the old floor hides a soft spot or old water damage, covering it just buries the problem. We lift a vent cover or a threshold to look before recommending either way.
What should you do before install day?
Clear small items, breakables and anything off the floors in the work area. Empty closets if they’re getting new flooring. Plan for the fridge and range to be moved if the kitchen is included, and have someone available to disconnect a gas line if needed. Let the boxes acclimate in the rooms where they’ll go.
What should Wichita homeowners know about older floors?
If your house was built in the 1950s or 1960s, there’s a fair chance of old 9x9 vinyl tile somewhere, often in the kitchen or basement. That tile and its black adhesive can contain asbestos. We test or arrange testing before disturbing it. In many cases LVP can float right over well-bonded old tile, which avoids disturbing it at all.
In College Hill, Riverside and Crown Heights, pulling up carpet sometimes reveals oak hardwood. Before you cover it with LVP, it’s worth pricing a refinish. See our hardwood refinishing cost guide.
Is LVP a good choice for basements?
Basements are common in Wichita, and LVP is one of the go-to floors for them. The planks themselves aren’t hurt by water. What matters is the concrete underneath. We check the slab for moisture and flatness, and some products call for a vapor barrier. Our basement flooring page covers it in more detail.
How does LVP compare on price with other floors?
LVP usually costs more than carpet and about the same as or a bit more than laminate, and less than tile or hardwood. If you’re weighing options, see laminate vs. vinyl plank, carpet vs. LVP, LVP vs. hardwood and tile vs. LVP. For all floor types side by side, read our Wichita flooring cost guide.
How long does LVP take to install?
Most LVP jobs in a typical Wichita home take one to two days of install time. Planks should sit in the house first to acclimate, following the maker’s instructions. Removal and leveling add time. Our timeline guide covers each step.
